Part-time position, 25 hours per week. Pay range: $16.00–$17.00 per hour depending on experience.
About the Role
Under the direct supervision of the Corps Officer, the custodian/groundskeeper is responsible for the general maintenance of Corps facilities and grounds, as well as custodial duties.
Responsibilities
- Perform housekeeping duties including dusting, window washing, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, vacuuming/shampooing/spot cleaning carpets, sweeping/mopping/buffing/stripping/waxing tile floors, etc.
- Assist with preventive maintenance of furnaces (changing filters) and other minor maintenance.
- Maintain Corps grounds to include yard work, trash removal, snow removal, lawn mowing, and any additional outside repairs as necessary.
- Assist with any small or minor repairs and note any major repair needs in the buildings.
- Assist with up-to-date inventory of cleaning supplies and custodial equipment.
- Maintain proper housekeeping in the janitorial room.
- Assist with preparation of rooms for Corps Programs, luncheons, and other meetings.
- Move/pick up furniture, equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Make pickups and deliveries as necessary.
- Assist Corps Officer with vehicle maintenance.
- Assist with fundraising as directed.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating professionally with clients, visitors, co-workers, and supervisors, including conflict resolution, courteous treatment, and respect for others.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED with one year of related work experience (combination of training and experience will be considered).
- Ability to comprehend and comply with job descriptions, cleaning instructions, and material safety data sheets.
- Basic communication skills to facilitate interactions between visitors and employees.
- Valid driver’s license (MO “E” or IL “JO2”) and must pass The Salvation Army MVR check.
- Experience pulling trailers, operating forklifts, and pallet jacks.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Capable of frequently lifting 30 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 100 pounds, and occasionally moving 100+ pounds using a dolly, cart, or truck.
- Majority of lifting is from floor to waist height; some lifting above waist and shoulder height at reduced weight.
- Requires bending, stooping, crouching, standing, walking, carrying, and pushing/pulling items.
- Occasionally climb a ladder (e.g., to replace light bulbs).
- Work includes outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions (cold winters, hot summers).
