About the Role
Performs a wide variety of scheduled and non-scheduled cleaning tasks following written or oral instructions from the lead custodian. Also handles general maintenance as directed.
Responsibilities
- High and low dusting as needed, including dust mopping and wet mopping floors.
- Cleans and disinfects bathrooms, shower rooms, and other assigned rooms.
- Washes and cleans walls and windows as necessary.
- Collects and discards waste in designated areas.
- Scrubs and waxes floors under the direction of the lead custodian.
- Performs general maintenance, including but not limited to:
- Troubleshooting mechanical and equipment issues.
- Changing light bulbs and replacing ballasts.
- Replacing receptacles and repairing clocks/speakers.
- Changing belts and using hand-operated drain cleaning tools.
- Cleaning and changing filters on machines or HVAC equipment.
- Lubricating/greasing equipment.
- Installing fixtures and repairing furniture.
- Painting, caulking, and tuckpointing.
- Repairing signage.
- Installing seed/sod and landscaping.
- Cutting and installing ceiling tiles and grid.
- Installing flooring.
- Replenishes paper towels, hand soap, and toilet tissue as necessary.
- Performs setups as directed by the lead custodian.
- Handles seasonal maintenance such as grass care, snow, and ice removal.
- Performs boiler and air conditioning checks and logs conditions as directed.
- Locks and secures all School District property and buildings.
- After appropriate training, performs building checks and pool readings as directed.
- Collaborates with other custodial personnel on tasks requiring more than one person.
- Notifies lead custodian of any mechanical defects or unsafe conditions.
- Attends in-service training as directed by supervisor.
- Adheres to all work and safety policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in custodial or buildings/grounds work preferred.
- Working knowledge of basic custodial equipment and supplies.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers, teaching staff, students, administrators, vendors, and supervisors.
- Dependable work record and positive work attitude.
- Aptitude to utilize district technology, including Microsoft, email, work orders, phones, and integration software.
- Professional appearance.
- Willingness to complete ongoing training.
- Ability to read and interpret reports, calendars, and documents.
Qualifications
- Capable of continuously standing, walking, stair climbing, reaching, handling, and gripping without difficulty.
- Capable of frequent bending, stooping, pushing, or pulling heavy objects, and lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
- Capable of working at heights over 30 feet.
- Capable of climbing ladders and operating equipment such as scrubbers, buffers, lifts, lawn mowers, pressure washers, vacuums, all-terrain vehicles, snow plows, salters, snow blowers, air compressors, power tools, and hand tools.
- Properly handling cleaning chemicals.
- Must remain free of alcohol or illegal substances in the workplace.
- Must serve as a positive role model for students.
