Custodian - Level GX - 1.0 FTE at Jefferson High School (Permanent)

The Custodial team is an essential part of the Sioux Falls School District, creating a safe and healthy environment for students. We are looking to add flexible and dedicated members to our team who are motivated to help achieve and maintain this goal. This is a full-time position at Jefferson High School with no rotation to other buildings.

Requirements

• Ability to drive to more than one location during a work shift.
• Good physical health, including the ability to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places, and work at those places.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical if a new employee.
• Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, standing, and walking.
• Repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers.
• Frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, and stooping.
• Occasional climbing and crawling.
• Good attendance.
• Ability to communicate and follow written and oral directions in English, with or without a communication device.
• Ability to demonstrate recognition of equipment malfunction.
• Positive attitude toward coworkers, ability to work cooperatively, and willingness to accept instructions and training.
• Works modified assignments as necessary.

Responsibilities

• Maintains cleanliness of District buildings, including but not limited to:
  • Sweeps, dusts, arranges furniture, empties trash and pencil sharpeners, cleans whiteboards and chalkboards.
  • Washes walls, woodwork, and windows.
  • Cleans and polishes metal surfaces.
  • Cleans and maintains hard and soft surface floors.
  • Wet mops and spot cleans hard and soft surface floors.
  • Cleans, sanitizes, and deodorizes restrooms and locker rooms.
• Assists in the maintenance of lawns, landscaping, concrete, blacktop surfaces, and playgrounds, including snow and ice removal of pedestrian walkways.
• Operates heating, A/C, ventilation, electrical, and mechanical systems (limited to turning equipment on/off and/or setting day/night cycles).
• Assists in setups and tear-downs for school activities.
• Observes and reports needed repairs of equipment, furnishings, fixtures, buildings, and sites.
• Secures building rooms at the conclusion of shift.
• Works a revised schedule and substitutes for other custodial staff when necessary.
• Shares responsibility for holiday, extended-day, and weekend activities with other custodial staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Pay

Level GX - starting at $19.92 per hour (2026-2027 Custodial/Maintenance Salary Schedule). Pay day is the last working day of each month.

Schedule

1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week, 12 months. Monday through Friday, 3:30 pm to 12:00 am with a 30-minute unpaid break.
