About the role

Maintains the district's school buildings in such a state of operating excellence that they represent no problems or interruptions to the educational program.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in maintaining seasonal grounds work (snow, lawn).
  • Clean and preserve designated spaces, equipment, etc. in the building.
  • Restock disposable items and provide inventory usage and data to the head custodian.
  • Aid visitors in utilizing the facilities with directions and equipment setup.
  • Maintain building and grounds security during school hours.
  • Show working knowledge of custodian machinery and equipment.
  • Show ability to perform minor building repairs.
  • Substitute for the head custodian on a short-term basis.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Perform cleaning tasks for boilers.
  • Perform related work as required by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret documents and instructions.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of job-related software.
  • Solid problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks requiring standing, walking, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, and bending/kneeling.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly stands, walks, uses hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, talks or hears.
  • Frequently reaches with hands and arms, sits, bends, stoops, or twists at the neck and trunk.
  • Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds.
  • Pushes/pulls items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Meets deadlines with severe time constraints.

Work Environment

  • Works indoors and occasionally outdoors.
  • Near or with moving mechanical equipment.
  • May work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays.
  • Works under moderate noise levels.

Work Hours

2:30 PM to 11:00 PM
