About the role

This position cleans assigned buildings in a set period of time using proper methods and materials in cleaning and care for building areas and equipment. Participates in other areas of Physical Plant operations as directed. Aids supervisor with special events and projects.

Responsibilities

• Cleans assigned buildings: sweeps, mops, and cleans floors; cleans white boards as directed; washes windows, walls, blinds, grills, and glass doors; empties trash cans.
• Performs setups and cleans up after events.
• Dusts general areas, vacuums rooms, replenishes supplies, and cleans drinking fountains and restrooms.
• Cleans and sweeps entrances, outside plazas, and walks.
• Assists in the maintenance and care of custodial and event services equipment and furnishings such as vacuum cleaners, buffing machines, pressure washers, tables, chairs, tents, podiums, and other related equipment.
• Participates in call-out responsibilities and may require night shift responsibilities and weekend work.
• Reports damaged structures and equipment to supervisor.
• Serves as a member of the Physical Plant Essential Personnel and participates in pre-emergency preparations and post-emergency recovery efforts as directed by the Director of Physical Plant.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or general education degree.
• Three years of custodial or related experience.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Must be eligible to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card upon employment.

Skills

• Ability to read and understand instruction manuals and chemical labels.
• Ability to communicate with a diverse group of people.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to operate carpet extraction machines, automatic floor scrubbers, buffers, and burnishers.
• Ability to perform hard floor care, including applying and removing stripper and applying multiple coats of floor wax.
• Ability to work nights and weekends when required.
• Ability to understand differences in cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to attend education and training programs as appropriate to increase awareness and understanding.

Preferred Qualifications

• Five years of custodial or related experience.
• Floor care equipment experience.

Pay

Salary range: $12.71 per hour
