About the Department

The Facilities Management Department provides a safe, clean, aesthetically attractive and functional campus environment through the maintenance of all campus buildings and building areas for the enhancement of the learning environment, the overall appeal of campus, and the level of human safety and comfort.

About the Role

The Custodian II will provide lead-worker direction to assigned custodial staff while performing a full range of custodial and facility support services to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming campus environment. This position organizes and monitors daily custodial operations, conducts inspections, coordinates deep-cleaning projects, and provides training and guidance to staff. The Custodian II also performs routine and specialized cleaning, supports university events and operational needs, and assists with exterior maintenance, including snow and ice removal, to ensure university facilities are maintained in accordance with departmental standards.

Responsibilities

• Fulfill Colorado State University Pueblo Custodial Cleaning Standards in assigned areas, including:
  • Vacuum carpets
  • Clean, sanitize, and replenish supplies in all bathroom and shower facilities
  • Remove all trash from assigned areas
  • Clean whiteboards/blackboards and empty pencil sharpeners
  • Clean all drinking fountains
  • Clean glass/windows
  • Clean furniture
  • Sweep and mop all floors
  • Clean classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, gymnasium, media center, locker rooms, auditoriums, lobbies, lounges, corridors, elevators, stairways, and other spaces
• Use Universal Precautions and sanitation procedures when handling and cleaning bodily fluids
• Complete all assigned safety training and other training as required by the University
• Perform deep cleaning projects such as:
  • Restoring carpet
  • Shampooing furniture
  • Stripping and waxing floors
  • Scrubbing non-wax floors
  • Washing walls
  • Detail cleaning air vents and light fixtures
  • Cleaning exterior windows
• Assist other Physical Plant and Custodial staff as needed, including overtime for University functions, special events, or emergency situations
• Assist with building exterior cleaning and emptying exterior trash receptacles within 25 feet of building exterior
• Perform snow and ice removal from assigned building entryways and sidewalks within 25 feet of building exterior, including spreading ice melt and providing slip protection/signage on wet floors

Requirements

• Six (6) months of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
• Regular Colorado Driver's License
• Seven-year background check to include felonies, misdemeanors, and the sex-offender registry
• Essential Services Designation: Required to be on duty to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay or interruption, including before and after regularly scheduled shifts, during University closures, after-hours, and weekends
• Exposure to and use of custodial cleaning supplies, chemicals, and ice melt

• Experience in floor care
• Work experience in a school setting
• Experience working events
