About the role
Join our team as a Custodian Floater on the Big Island. We are seeking an individual who can perform a variety of cleaning tasks in common areas, restrooms, and other high-traffic areas.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting in common areas
- Drive a golf cart
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors
- Empty trash and recycling bins; replace liners and transport waste to designated areas
- Refill supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper
- Maintain cleanliness in high-traffic areas including food courts, entrances, hallways, and seating areas
- Rotate between assigned areas based on operational needs and coverage gaps
- Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and urgent cleaning requests
- Clean glass surfaces, doors, and windows as needed
- Operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, buffers, and vacuums
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of chemicals and placement of warning signs (e.g., “Wet Floor”)
- Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply shortages to supervisors
- Assist with special cleaning projects or events as required
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred
- Must have a valid Hawaii driver's license and reliable transportation
- Previous janitorial or custodial experience is preferred, but not required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and reliability
- Ability to handle physical tasks, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 25–50 pounds)
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (entire shift, often 6–8+ hours)
- Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching to clean low and high surfaces
- Ability to lift and carry 25–50 pounds (trash bags, cleaning supplies, equipment)
- Capability to push and pull carts and equipment (e.g., mop buckets, floor machines)
- Good manual dexterity for handling cleaning tools and equipment
- Ability to climb short ladders or step stools for light maintenance or cleaning
- Ability to work various weather conditions
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors
- Stamina to perform repetitive tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and wiping surfaces
- Attention to detail to identify dirt, spills, and safety hazards
Requirements
- A valid Hawaii driver's license and personal vehicle
- Ability to work various shifts and locations of the island of Hawai’i
- Must pass HBM prescreen check
