About the Role

This hands-on position involves a variety of facilities-related tasks, including cleaning, repairing, and campus inspections.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and maintains building facilities including classrooms, break rooms, conference rooms, teacher work rooms, bathrooms, library/media rooms, gymnasiums, lunchrooms, nurses’ rooms, stages, and lobby/receptionist areas.
• Performs necessary room set-ups for scheduled meetings and events, including daily cafeteria set-up.
• Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums floors using cleaning solutions, tools, and equipment.
• Cleans and/or polishes walls, ceilings, windows, building fixtures, and whiteboards.
• Cleans entryways, hallways, door mats, and door glass daily.
• Dusts furniture, walls, light fixtures, baseboards, student desks, and other equipment.
• Gathers and empties trash.
• Cleans and services cleaning equipment daily and as needed.
• Applies wax or sealers to wood or concrete floors as directed by District Facilities.
• Assists with routine maintenance tasks such as light bulb and filter changes.
• Notifies Campus Facility Manager or Custodial Supervisor of the need to order materials/supplies, major repairs, or additions to building operating systems.
• Operates and understands machines, tools, and equipment including hand tools, small power tools, ladders, backpack and upright vacuums, floor buffers, cleaning chemicals, wheeled utility carts, and moving equipment.
• Demonstrates knowledge of HAZMAT regulations and Safety Data Sheets.
• Flexible regarding work hours to support campus events and other needs, including summer school schedules.
• Works in both outdoor and indoor environments while cleaning and repairing equipment, furniture, and buildings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED, or 6 months of custodial-related experience.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and products.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to walk, stand, and remain on your feet for extended periods, up to 4 hours or more at a time.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must pass a criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience as a school custodian.
• Expert knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment (including power tools/hand tools), and cleaning products.
