Custodian 9:00am - 5:30pm

We are seeking Custodial candidates for a 9:00am - 5:30pm shift in the Central Grounds zone. Custodians perform exceptional housekeeping services in assigned areas through safe work practices while using proper housekeeping techniques. The position maintains good working relationships with customers, staff, students, and supervisors and completes special project work as assigned.

About the role

Basic housekeeping experience, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms, and removal of trash is preferred. Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and directions, as well as adhere to regulatory guidelines in daily work is required. Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Basic computer, tablet, and/or smartphone usage and the ability to submit electronic timesheets are also required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain offices, classrooms, restrooms, public areas, or other assigned academic areas in clean and orderly conditions.
• Perform more complex tasks including operating cleaning equipment such as auto scrubbers, buffers, and burnishers.
• Remove trash, clean bathrooms, wipe down surfaces, dust, vacuum, mop, etc.
• Apply proper methods and materials; may mix own cleaning solutions.
• Maintain clean and orderly housekeeping closets and equipment and keep inventories of supplies, requesting additional supplies as needed.
• Report all repairs and pest control needs, and any housekeeping-related violations by residents, guests, or staff.
• May perform minor maintenance tasks, such as changing lightbulbs.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Regular standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, lifting, and carrying.
• Ability to safely handle material and equipment weighing 25 pounds, and occasionally as much as 50 pounds.
• Repetitive motion for recurring duties such as dusting and mopping.
• Work in various indoor and outdoor environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Some experience with basic housekeeping duties including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms, and removal of trash in a workplace setting.

Pay

The estimated salary range is $15.00-$18.00/hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Schedule

• 9:00am - 5:30pm shift.
• This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
• May require working during emergencies, snow events, weekends, and holidays if needed.
