Custodial Worker
About the role
This position is located in fitness facilities operated and administered by Fleet & Family Readiness Division, Command Navy Region Northwest. Incumbent will function as a Custodial Worker, performing a full range of janitorial/custodial duties to maintain clean, safe buildings and grounds.
Responsibilities
- Vacuum cleans rugs and draperies
- Shampoos rugs and upholstery
- Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors using light to heavy industrial-type equipment
- Dusts, waxes and polishes office furniture, dusts ledges and woodwork
- Empties cigarette disposal cans and waste baskets, disposing of trash and recycling waste appropriately
- Cleans glass partitions, inside and outside windows, walls and ceiling fixtures using ladders and scaffolds
- Moves and sets up tables, chairs and other equipment as required for events
- Maintains restrooms in clean, orderly and sanitary condition - cleans, disinfects and deodorizes lavatories, sinks and toilet bowls, replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels and soap
- Cleans mirrors and water fountains and performs light maintenance such as changing light bulbs
- Maintains an adequate supply of cleaning materials and advises supervisor when more are needed or when equipment needs repair or replacement
- Polices outside buildings within ten (10) feet or any areas needing cleaned
- Performs other related duties as assigned, including occasional laborer tasks such as applying ice control material, shoveling snow, light mowing and watering lawns around assigned buildings and facilities
Requirements
Knowledge and skill sufficient to read signs, follow simple oral and written instructions.
Able to work safely while moving lightweight objects.
Must be able to operate and use janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, cleaning compounds and solutions and perform minor maintenance on this equipment.
Qualifications
Successful completion of National Agency Background (NACI) Check required.
This position involves work on workdays and may involve weekends, and holidays, as well as rotating shifts.
Physical exertion is involved in standing and walking for long periods, some bending, stooping and lifting is required.
Must have ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving and carrying of supplies and equipment weighting up to 50 pounds is required.
