Custodial Supervisor
About the Role
The Denver Public Library (DPL) is a vibrant, essential hub for our diverse city. As a growing urban library system with 28 locations and over 4 million annual visitors, we're deeply woven into the fabric of Denver. We're seeking a Custodial Supervisor to lead and perform custodial work, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment in our libraries. This position will supervise and work with the custodial team on routine workload and special projects, including:
- Changing light bulbs
- Trimming landscaping
- Mowing grass
- Removing snow and ice
The role involves resolving problems encountered during daily operations, promoting teamwork, encouraging regular communication, and informing staff of relevant business issues and their impact on the organization.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and perform custodial work to maintain clean and safe library facilities
- Lead custodial staff in routine tasks and special projects
- Operate and maintain custodial equipment and supplies
- Respond to customer concerns and needs
- Train, motivate, and supervise custodial staff
- Work in a physically demanding environment involving bending, kneeling, and lifting objects up to 25-50 pounds
- Multi-task, prioritize, and creatively problem-solve
- Maintain positive relationships with customers, staff, and the community
- Work with a diverse group of people and foster an inclusive environment
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Three years of custodial experience
- Current Colorado driver's license with a good driving record
- Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in building maintenance and custodial activities
- Knowledge of hazards and safety practices required for custodial activities
- Skill in basic computer operations
- Ability to follow simple written or oral instructions
- Ability to work in an environment with people from all backgrounds and age groups
Preferred Qualifications
- Flooring and carpet cleaning experience

Work Environment & Location
The Denver Public Library's branches are unique reflections of the dynamic, diverse communities we serve. While you may be hired for a specific location, you may be required to work at any of our 28 branches based on operational needs. DPL employees may be redeployed to support core functions during branch closures or other emergencies.
Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 5:00 PM - 1:30 AM

Pay
Hiring range: $21.26 - $26.57 per hour
