Job Summary
About the role
The incumbent coordinates and supervises housekeeping and custodial duties, maintains records of hours worked, performs administrative tasks, and ensures compliance with departmental contracts, policies, and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Supervises employees and inspects buildings to evaluate job performance and enforce compliance with contracts, policies, and procedures (40%)
- Performs various administrative duties including maintaining personnel records, developing and monitoring the department's budget, preparing reports, managing supply orders, and controlling inventory (20%)
- Anticipates housekeeping and custodial needs to plan and coordinate daily work activities effectively, and develops programs and policies to create a safe and clean environment (15%)
- Provides training and instruction to housekeeping and custodial employees, manages work schedules, and records employee hours (15%)
- Cooperates with other departments, students, and the general public to solve problems, communicate information, and maintain good public relations (10%)
Requirements
Requires high school diploma. Valid Driver’s License. Minimum of 1 year of experience in housekeeping/custodial operations and the ability to train and supervise employees. Knowledge of safety practices, inventory control, budgeting, public relations, and record-keeping required. Strong communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to perform general managerial duties required. General PC knowledge is required. Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Leadership includes direct supervision and evaluation of work as a first-line supervisor over non-exempt staff including hiring, terminating, disciplining, or functional guidance and/or project leadership over exempt staff engaged in activities regularly.
Experience
Requires a minimum of 1 year of experience in housekeeping/custodial operations and the ability to train and supervise employees.
Education
Requires a high school diploma.
Additional Position Information
Regular schedule changes may be necessary—a minimum of forty hours of mandatory overtime per calendar year is required.
Physical Requirements
Light physical effort is required involving stooping and bending; the individual has limited discretion about walking, standing, etc. occasionally lifting of lightweight objects (up to 25 lbs.). May involve occasional exposure to dust, fumes, or outside weather conditions, and/or frequent driving of a vehicle (50% or more of the time).
Working Conditions
Occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperatures and air conditions.
Shift
Available: Monday–Friday, 3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m. Initial training will be conducted on first shift (6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.). Regular shift may change based on departmental needs.
Compensation
The hourly rate for this position is $18.21. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
