This position performs moderately complex (journey-level) custodial supervisory work, providing general guidance and direction to an assigned team of custodians.

HHSC is dedicated to building an atmosphere where employees feel valued and supported while providing specialized care for Texans in need. HHSC is comprised of ten psychiatric hospitals, two youth residential treatment facilities, and thirteen state supported living centers. Psychiatric hospitals are accredited by The Joint Commission and provide state-of-the-art, recovery-oriented, science-based treatment.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine inspections on assigned units, corrects deficiencies, and provides feedback to custodians.
• Prepares reports of work activities and organizes job tasks, seeking assistance from a supervisor when needed.
• Monitors employee performance, provides feedback, and conducts on-the-job training.
• Conducts employee performance evaluations for assigned custodians.
• Participates in the interviewing, hiring, and exit processes for new or separating employees; exercises hiring and termination authority.
• Ensures vacancies are filled promptly to distribute workload equitably.
• Maintains supply inventory on assigned unit(s) and ensures staff compliance with Environmental Services standard operating procedures.
• Represents the Environmental Services department on ad hoc committees as requested.
• Actively participates in disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations.
• May be eligible for additional pay for work performed at maximum security locations.

Requirements

• Two (2) years’ experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date to drive a state vehicle. Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of licensure.
• Must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, and List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
• Males between the ages of 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
• All applicants must be at least 18 years of age; Waco and Terrell Center for Youth applicants must be 21 years of age.
• Flexibility in work hours may be required, including overtime and/or extended hours.
• Compliance with HHSC immunization policy and state hospital operating procedures related to immunizations is required. Healthcare workers are considered at significant risk for vaccine-preventable diseases, including hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, and influenza. Non-immunized employees may be required to wear a mask and take other protective measures.

• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, inventory control principles, and housekeeping services, procedures, chemical usage, and equipment.
• Skills in the use of custodial materials, chemicals, and operating equipment.
• Skills in inspecting work areas.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

• Ability to prioritize job tasks.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

Pay

Salary Range: $2,953.25 - $4,365.66 per month

Schedule

• Full-time, regular position.
• Day shift.
• Not eligible for telework.
• Travel: Up to 15%.
