Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is seeking an adjunct Instructor to teach Custodial/Environmental Services courses within the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections. This role focuses on delivering high-quality instruction in commercial cleaning best practices, including sanitation, safety protocols, equipment handling, and industry standards. Applicants must successfully pass background checks conducted by both the college and the corrections system.

About the Role

The instructor will prepare individuals for employment in custodial and environmental services roles, working in a corrections facility with incarcerated individuals while following the rules and regulations of both the community college and the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully prepare, manage, and deliver course content to achieve course objectives, accommodate diverse learning styles, and meet student learning outcomes.
  • Actively engage students and provide prompt feedback in an objective, respectful, and effective manner.
  • Communicate and follow course syllabus content in accordance with directions provided and administrative guidance.
  • Work collaboratively with the College’s support services to identify and address students’ academic support needs.
  • Utilize College technology for instruction and operational processes, including the learning management system, email, document management, student information system, and employee portals.
  • Meet deadlines, including maintaining and submitting accurate class records, employee records/requests, and other assigned tasks.
  • Ensure laboratories are appropriately stocked with required supplies and equipment is in safe operating order when applicable.
  • Facilitate a positive, student-centered, and professional environment among students, faculty, and staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in custodial services.
  • Capability of delivering instruction in a classroom setting.
  • Ability to demonstrate cleaning equipment, with knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their appropriate application.
  • Willingness to work in a corrections facility with incarcerated individuals and follow all applicable rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial cleaning.
  • Experience in adult education/instruction.
  • Knowledge of job-seeking and job-retention skills.

Schedule

8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break, three days per week.
