About the role
The Facilities Assistant plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of Our House's facilities. They support daily operations, handle janitorial tasks, and provide light maintenance duties.
Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, offices, hallways, classrooms, and common areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors in all assigned spaces.
- Empty trash and recycling bins and transport waste to designated collection areas.
- Refill restroom supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
- Dust furniture, fixtures, vents, windowsills, and high-touch surfaces.
- Clean glass doors, windows, and interior partitions as assigned.
- Maintain cleanliness of breakrooms, kitchens, and eating areas.
- Disinfect surfaces and follow proper cleaning procedures to support health and safety.
- Perform routine building maintenance and repairs including plumbing, carpentry, painting, furniture repair, and minor electrical or mechanical tasks.
- Report maintenance issues and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Aid with room setups, furniture moves, equipment transport, and event preparations.
- Maintain outdoor areas including walkways, entrances, parking lots, and grounds.
- Restock facility supplies and assist with inventory as directed.
- Help maintain organized storage areas and ensure materials are properly stored.
- Provide emergency response and on-call assistance for urgent facility issues.
- Respond to and complete maintenance requests in a timely manner; update the facility ticket/log system.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify and report maintenance needs or safety hazards.
- Support vendor and contractor visits by escorting, monitoring, and ensuring compliance with safety and organizational standards.
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards.
- Participate in safety drills and support emergency preparedness activities.
- Provide updates to immediate supervisor regarding facility conditions, repairs, and ongoing needs.
- Operate and drive Our House vans as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Prior experience in custodial, maintenance, warehouse, or general labor work required.
- Demonstrated ability to perform hands-on maintenance tasks (plumbing, electrical, HVAC basics, carpentry, painting).
- Experience supporting multiple sites or high-traffic facilities preferred.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, and reach for extended periods of time.
- Comfortable working on ladders and in confined spaces as needed.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely.
- Requires occasional work in confined spaces or at elevated heights.
- May involve working around children, families, and program staff in an active community-based environment.
Other Requirements
- Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel between sites as needed.
- Must have the ability to drive Our House vans as needed.
