About the role
The Curator of Public Programming at ACCESS works at the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, MI. This full-time position involves leading and strategizing public programming initiatives that promote Arab American history and culture.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualize and implement public programs in collaboration with other departments
- Aid in marketing and fundraising efforts, including grant writing
- Develop, implement, and track metrics for public programs to align with strategic goals
- Conduct or oversee independent research related to museum programs
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with the arts and entertainment community
- Oversee the creation of productions such as musical events, film screenings, festivals, panels, and lectures
- Contact artists, musicians, singers, authors, and other talent for public programming events
- Arrange for delivery and sign contracts for speakers and artists
- Work with various ethnic communities and organizations to build an audience for the programs
- Network with other cultural institutions to promote and implement joint cultural activities and national tours of Arab and Arab American performers
- Coordinate travel arrangements and transportation needs for guest speakers and artists
- Assist with performance night logistics including load-ins, load-outs, and artist management
- Plan, assign, monitor, and manage the work of others
- Review performance and evaluate results achieved by subordinates
- Coach and mentor subordinates
- Interpret, apply, and recommend changes to organizational policies and procedures
- Review progress of assignments with senior management
- Balance conflicting resource and priority demands
- Create and operate within department budget and ensure compliance with financial guidelines
- Operate standard office equipment and use required software applications
Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree
- At least 3 years of event production or entertainment management experience
- Knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, and practices in creating and delivering public programming and music content
- Advanced concepts, principles, and practices of Arab American culture, art, and American studies
- Music and performing arts knowledge
- Experience with budget management, including creating and maintaining a budget
- Preferred knowledge of local, national, and international media outlets, art organizations, and cultural institutions
- Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications for program area and other applications, including Microsoft Office
- Ability to provide high-level customer service, partner with other functional areas, facilitate meetings, attend to detail, incite enthusiasm, motivate, and persuade others, develop and deliver public presentations, interpret and apply policies, organize and prioritize tasks, communicate effectively, work independently and collaboratively, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and work in a climate-controlled office environment
