About the role
This is a seasonal, temporary position ending January 1st, 2027. The Shop at Philbrook, located in a 1920s Italianate Villa surrounded by 25 acres of gardens, is part of Philbrook Museum of Art—Oklahoma’s most comprehensive art museum, featuring a diverse collection of approximately 15,000 objects spanning 5,000 years and multiple continents. The museum fosters learning, inspiration, and social connection through exhibitions, events, and programming.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality customer service to Museum Shop clientele to generate sales.
- Engage guests in the overall Philbrook experience, including exhibitions, events, museum collection and history, and programming.
- Process sales transactions accurately, package merchandise, and promote Philbrook activities and membership opportunities.
- Prepare the shop for opening and perform closing procedures, including balancing the money drawer, generating end-of-day reports, and handling sales tickets.
- Maintain sales floor and back stock room merchandise inventory levels.
- Fulfill telephone, mail, online, and special request orders; pack and ship merchandise according to shop procedures.
- Collaborate as a team to complete daily projects as directed by the Floor Manager, such as cleaning, preparing packaging and product information materials, and labeling merchandise.
Requirements
- Wednesday through Sunday availability, including evenings and weekends.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly develop rapport with a diverse population, including museum visitors, members, donors, and staff.
- Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative, multitask, and maintain flexibility.
- Ability to continuously learn new information and communicate effectively.
- Capable of standing or walking for at least 80% of the shift and lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of retail or service industry experience.
- Experience developing long-term customer relationships in a similar environment preferred.
- Previous cash handling and operational experience with a POS sales system strongly preferred.
