The Sheldon Museum, founded in 1884, is the oldest community-based museum in the country. It houses a diverse collection of fine Vermont furniture, paintings, textiles, documents, household objects, and artifacts that offer insights into the past of Addison County and Vermont. Located in an historic 1829 Federal house, the Museum also features a Research Center with an exceptional archival collection, exhibit galleries, a lovely garden, a historic barn, and a Museum Store. Situated in a vibrant college town, Middlebury, Vermont, surrounded by the Green Mountains and Lake Champlain, the region is often cited as one of the best places to live and work.
