Cultural Resources Specialist – Entry Level (Hybrid)

About the role

Barr is seeking a cultural resources specialist to join our hybrid team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. You will collaborate with Barr scientists and engineers, clients, and regulatory agencies to address cultural resources and regulatory issues across projects. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, splitting time between the Barr office and a home office.

Willingness to travel and complete short-term, out-of-town fieldwork is preferred. Work environments may include rough terrain, steep slopes, dense vegetation, construction sites, and industrial facilities with moving machinery. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation and may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and conduct archaeological field studies, including surveys, National Register evaluations, data recovery investigations, construction monitoring, and related field documentation.
• Prepare field site forms and written reports.
• Oversee and coordinate project tasks to ensure timely, high-quality delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in cultural resources, archaeology, anthropology, historic preservation, a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• 5 years of experience in cultural resources management.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Section 106 and state regulations concerning cultural resources management.
• Experience with cultural resources literature reviews, fieldwork, National Register evaluations, data recovery investigations, construction monitoring, scheduling, and report preparation.
• Knowledge of cultural resources and regulatory practices across a variety of project types and sizes, particularly in the Midwest or Northern Plains.
• Familiarity with GIS in a field setting.
• Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Pay

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $60,000–$75,000 per year. Compensation varies based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other factors. Eligible employees may also receive a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance.
