Licensure & Eligibility

Candidates must hold or be eligible to hold a teaching license in one of the following CTE Health Science Education license areas:

  • Registered Nurse (720):
    • Licensed candidates: eligible with current teaching license.
    • Non-licensed provisional candidates: eligible with a Bachelor's or Associate's degree in nursing (minimum 2.7 GPA) and two years of industry-related work experience.
    • Non-degreed Registered Nurses (diploma graduates from a state or nationally accredited institution): eligible for a provisional license with four years of industry-related work experience.
  • Non-Registered Nurse (721):
    • Licensed candidates: eligible with current teaching license.
    • Non-licensed provisional candidates: eligible with a Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a non-RN, Allied Health medical field from a state or nationally accredited institution, plus:
      • An active NC license, registration, or certification (clear of restrictions) in the same field as the educational degree.
      • Two years of industry-related work experience.

Examples of related non-RN Health Sciences degrees include: Physical Therapist, Radiological Technologist, Respiratory Care/Cardiopulmonary Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Dietetics/Nutrition Technologist, Histological Technologist, Nuclear Medicine Technologist, Phlebotomist, Physician Assistant, Radiation Therapy Technologist, Dental Hygienist, or Physician.

Eligibility for a provisional license must be established prior to a contract offer.
