Responsibilities
- Develops and administers secondary school curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction, and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials; translates plans into learning experiences to best utilize available time.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual needs, including students with special needs; provides individual and small-group instruction as needed.
- Instructs students in responsible citizenship and other subjects specified in applicable laws, regulations, and procedures.
- Stays current with professional knowledge and educational developments by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting for student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and laws.
- Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures student conduct aligns with school standards and district policies; maintains a functional learning atmosphere.
- Coordinates with other secondary professional staff to evaluate and assess curriculum; participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, supplies, and equipment; maintains inventory records.
- Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of secondary school curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and action-plan formulation.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
