Responsibilities

  • Develops and administers secondary school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials; translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available time for instruction.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, modifies instructional methods to fit individual student needs (including students with special needs), and provides individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Instructs students in principles of responsible citizenship and other subjects specified in applicable laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Acquires professional knowledge and stays current with developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting of student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies; maintains standards of behavior for a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Collaborates with other secondary professional staff (especially within grade level) to evaluate and assess curriculum; participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, supplies, and equipment; maintains inventory records.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
  • Manages and maintains classroom, greenhouse, and lab spaces with an emphasis on student safety.
  • Coordinates and leads a student chapter of FFA.

Requirements

  • One of the following certificates is required:
    • Secondary Education
    • CTE - General
  • One of the following endorsements is required:
    • CTE Agriculture Education
    • Agriculture

Skills

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of secondary school curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
