CT Technologist

About the Role

This position requires flexibility and floating to our other locations as needed; must be willing to travel. The CT Technologist will perform and ensure appropriate quality control, provide high diagnostic quality images, and interact professionally with patients, physicians, and staff while maintaining optimal patient flow and throughput.

Responsibilities

• Perform technologist duties at specified times and places, as assigned.
• Perform required quality control procedures and ensure proper operation of equipment at all times.
• Utilize and maintain knowledge about radiation protection, safety, and current scanning protocols.
• Coordinate with reception and take the next available patient to ensure efficient patient flow.
• Receive and greet patients, obtain necessary medical history, and provide procedure instructions.
• Provide proper protection against radiation exposure using lead shields.
• Assist radiologists as required.
• Operate equipment according to recognized procedures and review images for diagnostic quality.
• Report any equipment operation concerns immediately.
• Provide high-quality studies and communicate with radiologists and referring physicians.
• Assess factors that may contraindicate procedures, such as medications, patient history, or artifacts.
• Assess patient risk factors related to contrast media, including allergic reactions and renal insufficiency.
• Perform venipuncture, verify IV patency, and maintain IV access.
• Utilize accessory equipment including power injectors, colon insufflators, and AEDs.
• Perform QA/QC for CT-related equipment in accordance with RIMI and ACR guidelines.
• Handle patients in a caring, courteous, and professional manner.
• Evaluate patient ability to tolerate exams and respond to contrast media reactions.
• Ensure images, examination requisitions, and records are properly completed with correct patient information.
• Order necessary supplies to maintain efficient operation of the unit.
• Assist in other areas during lulls in technical duties (e.g., patient registration, scheduling, answering phones).
• Maintain complete and organized records of equipment repairs.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
• Ensure overall cleanliness of office and clinical areas.
• Assist other technologists as needed.
• Cross-train in other modalities as required.
• Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to perform exams as outlined by governing bodies and RIMI protocol.
• Physical dexterity, strength, and ability to position patients and operate CT and related equipment.
• Conceptual ability to determine means of providing requested studies based on case specifics.
• Ability to maintain accuracy in positioning and exposure technique.
• Ability to identify and manage emergency situations.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills for proper patient care.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma plus 2 years of training at an approved school of Radiologic Technology.
• ARRT registered and certified in CT.
• Licensed technologist through the State of Rhode Island.
• National & State IV Certification required.
• Adequate training in cross-sectional anatomy, injection procedures, contrast media, and possible reactions.
• Must maintain additional accreditation/certification required by State, Federal Government, and RIMI.
• Must submit yearly CME reports to management.

Physical Demands

• Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day.
• May lift/position patients and supplies up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to move patients from scanner tables and transport patients in wheelchairs/stretchers.
• Ability to crouch, reach, and lift for proper manipulation and placement of ancillary equipment.
• Exposure to high magnetic fields; cannot have physical conditions aggravated by magnetic fields, acoustic noise, or RF exposure.
• Ability to work in Zone 3 and Zone 4.
