CT Tech-Eligible, PRN, Variable Shifts

About the Role

Performs a variety of procedures applying ionizing radiation according to department policy. Communicates with physicians and other work-related personnel appropriately.

Responsibilities

• Identifies patients and procedures.
• Communicates with nursing or physician concerning patient, including informing nursing of patients needing IV sedation or biopsies.
• Fills out questionnaires for all patients aged 12-55 years old.
• Positions patients accurately for all procedures, ensuring correct transfer and positioning for optimal visibility of anatomy.
• Performs procedures correctly using the protocol book for reference, completing studies in a timely manner and delivering them to the radiologist for interpretation.
• Records the time procedures are finished and films are taken on the patient board; archives films and delivers them to the radiologist for reading.
• Obtains appropriate supplies and prepares the room for patients, ensuring it is cleaned and stocked at all times with adequate supplies and linens.
• Cleans tables and trays after each patient.
• Uses proper technique when injecting IV contrast, ensuring the IV is functional and checked with saline before use; chooses the correct injection method (hand or injector).
• Performs 3D imaging and multiplanar reconstruction.
• Responds to codes and other emergency situations appropriately.
• Explains CT procedures to patients and/or family members, obtains completed questionnaires, and gathers proper history and clinical information from patients, floors, or physician offices.
• Informs patients and families of all delays.
• Trains co-workers and students, and assists other technologists when not busy in the assigned CT room.
• Acquires requisitions and checks for appropriate clinical information.
• Charges procedure supplies and surgical codes upon exam completion, including indicating no-film badge wearing, fluoro time, and adding surgical charges when needed.
• Operates the PACS system appropriately and verifies studies before sending them to the archive.
• Reports equipment problems to the supervisor and in-charge tech, documenting confirmation numbers.
• Completes appropriate forms for all procedures, including contrast sheets for patients receiving IV and rectal contrast, and CT forms for all patients.
• Communicates with the radiologist to determine appropriate protocols for each exam, utilizing correct protocols as prescribed.
• Performs procedures as directed by the radiologist, correcting scans as needed and demonstrating recognition of anatomy and pathology related to the scan being processed.
• Performs warm-up calibrations and point-of-care testing.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
• ARRT Registered.
• CPR certification.
• SCRQSA certification (required for team members working in South Carolina).

Team members in this job as of 11/08/2020 are grandfathered from the minimum requirements listed above. Additionally, may be grandfathered from obtaining CT Registration pending state and regulatory requirements.
