Job Description
The CT protocoling technologist will work under the indirect supervision of radiologists and cardiologists to ensure appropriate CT scan ordering, and protocol selection based on patient diagnosis and facilitating technical excellence. The CT protocoling technologist will work with operational managers and CT Team leader to ensure the CT quality program, policies, procedures, and training are maintained and documented to assure safe practices and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Maintain core CT scanning competencies
- Ensure imaging quality, deliver appropriate radiation dose to patients, and manage CT/CTA procedures
- Aid in precepting other CT technologists and orienting them to the equipment and department protocols
- Work alongside radiologists/cardiologists to assist with 3D post-processing
- Accurately interpret physician's scanning instructions, administer contrast material, prepare and operate CT equipment, position patient for appropriate images, transmit images to interpreting physician
- Work as a team member, follow infection control and safety guidelines
- Serve as primary liaison between patients and radiologists, other support team members
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing, use professional and ethical judgment, critical thinking
- Participate in continuing education and learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills
Qualifications
- Graduate of AMA accredited program in radiologic technology
- Associates degree in radiologic technology preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in radiologic technology preferred
- 2 years clinical experience as a CT Technologist in a hospital setting preferred
- ARRT (R) Registered required
- ARRT (CT) Registered required
- BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved required
- New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation
- Demonstrate high level knowledge in CT image quality, safety, and protocols
- Demonstrate high level of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology
- Maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure techniques
- Competent in performing examinations and procedures on patients of all ages
- Maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure techniques
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Expertise in the operation of CT scan equipment with attention to detail, understanding of computer technology, ability to work in a stressful environment with the ability to follow directions/instructions from supervisor
