Cryptocurrency Subject Matter Expert

This position supports the Drug Enforcement Administration Diversion Control Division, a federal law enforcement agency, in analyzing complex financial and business records for federal diversion-related investigations, prosecutions, and the seizure and forfeiture of illegally derived property.

Responsibilities

• Conduct blockchain forensic analysis to trace illicit cryptocurrency activity.
• Support financial investigations linked to Chinese marijuana farmland, pill presses, and chemical diversion.
• Develop investigative leads through cryptocurrency wallet clustering, mixing analysis, and darknet monitoring.
• Work with Special Financial Investigators (SFIs) and Financial Investigators (FIs) to integrate cryptocurrency evidence into financial case files.
• Provide training and technical assistance to DEA personnel.
• Prepare written reports, exhibits, and expert testimony when required.
• Trace cryptocurrency transactions linked to Suspicious Order Reports (SORs) and diversion schemes.
• Assist in pill press and chemical diversion cases involving virtual currency.
• Develop investigative leads by leveraging blockchain analytics tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Accounting, Forensic Accounting, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field supporting financial or cyber investigations.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in blockchain analysis and cryptocurrency investigations.
• Demonstrated experience supporting criminal or regulatory investigations involving digital assets.
• Proficiency with blockchain analytics tools (e.g., Chainalysis, TRM Labs, CipherTrace).
• Demonstrated knowledge of drug diversion enforcement and illicit finance techniques.
• Strong analytical, report-writing, and communication skills.
• Prior experience with law enforcement or Government agencies is preferred.
• Skilled in oral and written communications.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Security clearance required.
