Crossing Guard

About the role

Directs the action of children and traffic at assigned crosswalks in order to ensure safe crossing of students.

Responsibilities

• Directs action of children at an assigned crosswalk in order to ensure safe crossing
• Directs visitors to office
• Escorts children across the street and parking lots
• Issues verbal warnings, reports misconduct, and requests assistance from appropriate personnel as required
• Maintains communications with the building principal and/or Colorado Springs Police Department, El Paso County Sheriff's Office, or Air Force Security Police regarding incidents that occur at assigned locations that could potentially impact the safety of pedestrians
• Monitors student(s) behavior, ensuring their compliance to district/building rules, policies, and regulations
• Supervises parking lots and school grounds
• Reports consistently for work as scheduled
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Attains proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards

Qualifications

Required:

• First Aid/CPR - American Heart Assc. / Red Cross / Etc.
• High school graduate - high school diploma or equivalent

Work environment

• The noise level in the work environment may alternate among quiet, moderate, and loud
• Frequently required to interact in person and through communication methods with students, public, and/or other staff
• Required to work scheduled school/work hours and/or days
• May be required to work extended school/work hours and/or days as directed
• Work is performed outdoors
• May experience exposure to dirt, dust, temperature extremes, and noise
• May experience exposure to adverse climate and weather conditions

Physical demands

• Sits, stands, walks, stoops, kneels, and crouches/squats while performing duties
• Has oral and auditory capacity enabling interaction interpersonally and/or through communication devices
• Uses eyes, hands, and finger coordination enabling the use of equipment and writing utensils
• Works with arms extended at shoulder height with a weight up to 5 lbs.
• Distinguishes depth and objects in a wide field of vision
• Conducts activities involving walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling/bending, crouching/squatting, twisting, and reaching

• Compensation: $17.97-18.87
• Scheduled weekly hours: 2.5

• Schedule: M-F
