Responsibilities
- Teach safe, effective, and motivational group exercise classes using approved guidelines from ACSM, NSCA, IDEA, and AFAA.
- Instruct patrons on proper workout methods, demonstrate exercises, identify muscle groups, and teach strengthening techniques.
- Adhere to KHI and Del E. Webb Wellness Center policies and procedures.
- Maintain facility cleanliness by stacking and cleaning equipment after use.
- Monitor participant safety during classes and notify supervisors of any issues or abnormalities with equipment.
- Plan music and movements for classes.
- Maintain accurate records and complete forms in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 1 year of work experience in group exercise instruction.
- BLS or Heartsaver with AED through American Heart Association or American Red Cross with AED.
- Fitness certification from ACSM, ACE, NSCA, AFAA, or another certifying agency.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience conducting physical exercise classes in a group setting.
Experience
- Develop positive interactions and communication with members, guests, co-workers, and other Wellness Center staff.
- Motivate class environments with good communication skills.
- Communicate and work well with all ages and levels of ability.
- Comprehend and understand basic exercise physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, nutrition, and exercise performance.
- Have knowledge and understanding of human body anatomy and physiology related to exercise and safety.
Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to visually monitor participants during class to ensure safe and proper exercise execution.
- Ability to hear calls for help.
- Ability to use fine motor skills and maintain good hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to lead continuous physical exertion and repetitive movement classes.
- Ability to manipulate and incorporate exercises with or without resistive equipment.
- Possess the ability to memorize exercise routines and interpret directions.
