The Crop Division of Great American has been helping generations of farmers take control of their risks since 1915. The Division is also one of a select few private companies authorized by the United States Department of Agriculture Risk Management Agency (USDA RMA) to write MPCI policies. With six regional offices throughout the U.S., the teams provide tremendous expertise in the specific needs of farmers and crops.

This position is based in the Albany, GA office and requires on-site work five days a week. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.
About the role
The level of this role (Associate Underwriter I – IV) will be dependent on candidate experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Apply rules and guidelines, insurance laws, and regulations.
- Review, document, and/or underwrite new and renewal policy transactions within written authority.
- Enter policy information on an assigned product, territory, and/or agency in accordance with RMA procedure.
- Proof/audit policy information on an assigned product, territory, and/or agency(ies).
- Review premium and loss data on individual accounts as part of renewal, change, or mid-term underwriting.
- Review insurance applications and other risk documentation.
- Review underwriting requirements and refer applications, endorsement requests, or other correspondence for further underwriting analysis when outside of written authority.
- Gather information on new and renewal business and change requests to support underwriter decision making.
- Investigate discrepancies in gathered information.
- Order, review, and take appropriate action on required reports, endorsement requests, service requests, and general correspondence.
- Analyze individual risk pricing for new business submissions and renewals within written authority.
- Monitor entry/processing to ensure data integrity and avoid potential systemic issues.
- Communicate with agents and customers to obtain information needed to underwrite risks and address issues; research and respond to agent questions.
- Provide support to underwriter(s), including organizing underwriting information to speed decision making.
- Perform "template" policy review and actions such as endorsement within assigned authority level.
- Provide information needed to issue policies and endorsements on a timely basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Crop insurance experience is preferred, but not required.
- Associate’s Degree in Business, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
