Avis Budget Group is seeking a Lead Engineer to lead the technical effort for our CRO & Experimentation team — build and QA alike — across Web and App for Avis.com and Budget.com. Reporting to the Director, Global CRO & Experimentation, this role owns getting every experiment built and validated correctly, whether that means doing the work directly or coordinating with whoever else is building it — internal IT, the IT/QA team, or 3rd-party delivery partners. This is a lead role: you're accountable for the outcome even when you're not the one at the keyboard. You will work closely with CRO Managers, designers, analysts, Product Management, and IT/QA — bringing a test-and-learn mindset and strong technical rigor to everything the team builds. What You'll Do: Experimentation & TestingLead the build and QA of A/B and multivariate tests across our regions globallyBuild experiment variants based on approved designs across web and appEnsure experiments are implemented accurately and tracked correctly from launch, regardless of who executed the workTechnical Oversight & CoordinationBuild both simple front-end variations and more complex, multi-page or personalization-driven experiencesDirect and coordinate 3rd-party delivery partners for additional build capacity, ensuring their work meets the same tracking and QA standards as internal buildsCoordinate with internal IT resources on more complex technical builds as neededTroubleshoot and resolve technical issues with live experimentsQA LeadershipOwn QA for every experiment — implementing and validating tracking/tagging prior to launchCoordinate with the IT/QA team on regression and cross-site testing, leaning on their broader coverage across the full siteMonitor active experiments for conflicts across concurrent testsCross-Functional CollaborationWork closely with CRO Managers to align on build priorities and timelines, and on tracking and measurement setupPartner with UX and Design to ensure experiments are built to specSupport the handoff of successful tests to Product Management for permanent, production-grade implementationContinuous ImprovementStay up to date with testing platform capabilities, tools, and best practicesProactively suggest process or tooling improvements to increase build efficiency and quality Perks You’ll Get: Access to Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and Disability insuranceEligible to elect other voluntary benefits including: Group Auto Insurance, Group Home Insurance, Pet Insurance, Legal Assistance, Identity Theft Protection, FSA, Accident Insurance, Critical Illness Insurance, and additional life insurance coverages401(k) Retirement Plan with company matched contributionsFull training to learn the business and enhance professional skillsEmployee discounts, including discounted prices on the purchase of Avis/Budget carsAccess to an Employee Assistance Program for services including counseling, financial and legal consultation, referrals for care service and more What We're Looking For: Hands-on experience building A/B and multivariate tests in Adobe Target, Optimizely, or a comparable web testing platformWorking knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript sufficient to build and troubleshoot front-end experiment variationsFamiliarity with experimentation across both web and app platforms, or strong aptitude to pick up app-based testing approachesExperience directing or coordinating the work of other engineers or delivery partners, not just executing soloFamiliarity with tagging and analytics implementation (e.g., GA4, Adobe Analytics, tag management systems)Highly detail-oriented with a strong QA mindset — comfortable owning QA outcomes even when someone else executes the testing or the buildComfortable coordinating work across internal teams, Product engineering, and external delivery partnersStrong organizational skills to manage multiple concurrent experiment builds across regions and platforms The annual starting salary for this position is between $115,000 – $125,000 annually. Factors that may affect starting pay within this range include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
