About the role

We are seeking a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to work casual shifts at Essentia Health-Virginia. This position involves performing clinical anesthesia duties, prioritizing anesthetic decisions, administering anesthetic agents, and communicating patient status to the healthcare team. The CRNA will facilitate staff coverage, assignments, and breaks in the surgical area while ensuring patient and family involvement in the anesthesia care plan.

Shifts are Monday through Friday, 0700–1530, with 8 hours paid per shift. No call obligation is required. Shifts are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis by the CRNA Manager. The practice includes general, orthopedic, podiatry, gynecology, ophthalmology, and ENT cases in a combined practice model (both MDA-supervised and independently run cases).

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical anesthesia duties and take responsibility for direct patient care and on-call assignments as needed.
• Prioritize anesthetic decisions and administer anesthetic agents following established protocols and guidelines.
• Communicate patient status to healthcare team members.
• Facilitate staff coverage, assignments, and breaks in the surgical area.
• Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan and assess patient data reflective of age-specific needs.
• Engage in leadership through committee involvement, education, and research initiatives to improve nursing practice.
• Ensure patients and families are partners in the anesthesia care plan.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and nurse anesthesia program.
• Current license in the state of practice.
• Certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA); new graduates must pass the certification exam within 12 months of graduation.
• Re-certification per NBCRNA guidelines.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of hire.

Pay

$200.00 per shift.
