About the role

As a Critical Operations Technician I, you will be responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of IT, electrical, mechanical, plumbing/piping equipment, machinery, and controls located in and around our data centers. This role monitors operations, conducts routine assessments, and ensures the proper functioning of building systems and equipment. You will assist customers on the data center floor, perform equipment installs, manage tickets, and escalate alerts to systems engineers. This is an on-site role supporting a 24/7/365 data center environment and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.

Responsibilities

  • Apply learning, knowledge, skills, and company policies to a wide range of tasks pertaining to IT, electrical, and mechanical equipment, controls, and operating systems.
  • Lead, maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment; record readings and adjust as necessary to ensure proper operation.
  • Provide remote hands and eyes services for customers, including high-level computer hardware and software configuration support.
  • Install suite wall, cage material, ladder rack, fiber tray, cabinets, cabling, and customer equipment based on provisioning documentation and established Data Center Operation procedures.
  • Install and repair IT, mechanical, and electrical equipment; assist team members with major repairs and maintenance of building and equipment.
  • Process work orders for preventive and corrective maintenance on critical, building, and site infrastructure.
  • Consult with supervisors to order necessary tools and equipment for maintenance tasks.
  • Create and update tickets within the established ticketing system to address customer calls, facility alerts, and system-related issues.
  • Operate and monitor critical and non-critical system equipment to ensure safe and compliant operation.
  • Respond to building emergencies and customer requests.
  • Comply with departmental policies for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Use the Change Management Process to obtain approval for preventive and corrective maintenance, including necessary documentation.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of technical training, military training, or workplace equivalency in IT, electrical, and/or mechanical fields.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Customer focus with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to analyze operations, determine the cause of problems, and take corrective action.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to function in a team environment and pass job-related skills assessments.
  • Computer skills and familiarity with MS Office, Outlook, and web-based applications.
  • Ability to acquire and apply job-related knowledge within set guidelines.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks involving frequent typing, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and lifting (ranging from <10 lbs. to 50 lbs., with heavier weights assisted by others or lifting aids).

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more years of work experience in a data center environment, NOC, or equivalent.
  • BOD OEM (Panduit, Corning), A+, Network+, or BICSI Installer I certifications.
