Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) Eastern Region

Inova is looking for new providers to join our Medical Critical Care Service in the Eastern Region, including Inova Alexandria, Inova Mount Vernon, and additional clinics in the surrounding area.

About the role

The Medical Critical Care Service (MCCS) is comprised of board-certified and hospital-employed critical care physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners dedicated to the academic mission at Inova. Intensivists conduct combined management and teaching rounds daily, serve as the attending of record for most patients on the teaching service, and administer the ICU house staff lecture series. The educational director for the rotation attends monthly academic meetings to ensure an outstanding experience for house staff.

Advance practice providers treat patients who often require life support and participate in multidisciplinary teams including physicians-in-training, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, dietitians, and social workers. They collaborate with physicians from other specialties to ensure the best possible outcomes for critically ill patients. Patients and family representatives are invited to attend daily bedside rounds to facilitate communication and decision-making.

Schedule

• Rotating day/nights with weekend rotation and holidays

Responsibilities

• Provide critical care to patients requiring life support
• Participate in multidisciplinary team rounds
• Collaborate with physicians from various specialties
• Engage in daily bedside rounds with patients and families
• Contribute to the academic mission, including teaching and lecture series

Requirements

• Certification: Basic Life Support prior to start; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (for Critical Care) upon start
• Licensure:
  • Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
  • If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License (depending on State of primary residence), license (or eligibility) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in Virginia, a "Practice Agreement" signed by supervising physician(s), a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician
  • Drug Enforcement Administration License (if prescribing controlled substances)
• Experience: Prior experience required
• Education:
  • For Nurse Practitioners: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post-masters certificate program, or certificate from an accredited program by relevant nursing bodies
  • For Physician Assistants: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
• Payer Credentialing: Ability to successfully complete credentialing by third-party payors and enroll as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor
• Medical Staff Credentialing: Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified in critical care
• 3 years of experience as an advanced practice provider in a critical care setting
