Responsibilities
- Admits clients to the program in the absence of the clinical staff; obtains physician orders; orders medications; collaborates with pharmacy; transcribes orders.
- Develops, implements, and operates a quality assurance program to monitor the dispensing of medication by agency staff.
- Administers medications both intramuscularly and orally.
- Affirms that agency policies and procedures meet all applicable local and state regulatory standards relating to applicable medical and health issues.
- Provides appropriate consultation and referral regarding health questions and concerns of staff, and clients and their families.
- Provides health screenings for defined agency populations.
- Completes nursing assessments and medically related assessments ordered by the prescriber.
- Coordinates health services with appropriate community resources to insure continuity of health services upon discharge.
- Coordinates medical and psychiatric needs of clients with medical staff.
- Provides linkage for clients to resources in the community for housing, dental clinics, NA and AA groups, food pantry, health clinics, primary care physicians, library for research or computer use, etc.
- Trains for staff and clients in appropriate areas.
- Maintains ongoing and current competencies requirements for licensure.
- Attends trainings, meetings and seminars are required.
- Supervises staff on assigned shift; oversees monitors and manages unit operations in the absence of other Supervisors in collaboration with on call medical and clinical staff.
- Participates in staff meetings, community meetings, and other staff and program group activities that support the operation of an effective health care program for clients.
- Facilitates psycho-educational groups for clients.
- Attends and participates on treatment team; attends staff meetings as required.
- Coordinates medical and psychiatric needs of clients with medical staff.
- Participates in the development and implementation of service plans, objectives and methods necessary for providing effective services to individual clients and families.
- Maintains accurate individual records for clients within state licensing and professional accreditation standards and maintaining HIPAA confidentiality standards.
- Enters data into computer database for new clients; updates client data when needed; researches client information/insurance status.
- Maintains thorough documentation of daily activities including nursing and treatment services.
- Responds to medical emergency situations and calls emergency medical services for clients and staff when warranted.
Qualifications
- Licensed Registered Nurse
- Associates degree or higher with coursework in nursing and at least one year of experience working with individuals with serious mental illnesses.
- QMHP preferred
- Day Shift: Valid licensure by the State of Virginia as a Registered Nurse.
- Current certification in pharmacology.
- Not under disciplinary restrictions by the State of Virginia’s Board of Nursing.
- Proficient with Windows, Outlook, MS Word and Excel, internet research.
