Crisis Response Team Master's Level Clinical Internship Fall 2026 - Denver Sheriff Department

About the role

The Denver Sheriff Department is seeking interested applicants for its Crisis Response Team – Masters level Internship Program. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to shadow an experienced and dedicated team that provides a wide range of services to those within the Denver Sheriff’s Department care and custody. Interns will observe and assist the teams' daily routines and services, which include providing crisis intervention to individuals with serious mental illness, developing therapeutic rapport with high-risk individuals to prevent future crises, and assisting deputies in the day-to-day operations of special management units.

Responsibilities

• Working with the Crisis Response Team clinicians on initial clinical interviews with clients to determine functioning level, assign appropriate mental health alerts, and update mental health alerts when needed.
• Shadowing clinical assessments and learning the recommendation process for other service providers and/or assessments.
• Providing intervention services, both individual and group.
• Providing one-on-one services with clients.
• Aiding in the development and implementation of coordinated treatment plans with clients, their support systems, and other professionals to meet behavioral, medical, and/or psychological needs.
• Participating in client staffing meetings to develop treatment recommendations and recommendations on reentry and transition planning.
• Shadowing team members to learn how to present case/client information to other teammates using the "systems" model and assessment information.
• Participating in individual weekly supervision.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Masters degree program in Social Work, Psychology, or a closely related field.
• Completion of prerequisite coursework as required by the academic institution.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Interest in a corrections or jail-based facility.

Qualifications

• Education requirement: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associate’s, bachelor’s, or higher degree, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion).
• Experience requirement: None.
• Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
• Licenses and certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
