Criminal Research Specialist
About the role
Conduct thorough and accurate research into individuals' criminal histories to support background screening processes. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure high-quality, compliant results for our clients.
Responsibilities
- Review database search results (SSN Trace, Nationwide Criminal Database) to determine additional names or searches needed.
- Perform criminal record research through various court access systems and public records.
- Contact courts and verified sources via phone, email, fax, and mail when additional research is required.
- Apply company guidelines, federal and jurisdiction-level regulations, and client-specific rules when processing requests.
- Document all actions taken within internal and client-facing notes.
- Compile accurate, compliant consumer reports for Foley clients.
- Communicate internally with quality control and other team members to ensure timely, high-quality results.
- Communicate externally with customers and vendors as support needs arise.
- Contribute ideas to improve processes and collaborate across departments.
- Work across numerous platforms, while implementing new tools and strategies to drive the business forward for our customers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field, or equivalent experience in criminal records research, legal, or court systems.
- Previous experience in background screening or related industry (criminal research, investigations, law enforcement).
- Strong knowledge of the U.S. criminal justice system and ability to interpret court cases and terminology.
- Familiarity with FCRA and state regulations; ability to apply compliance standards.
- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based research tools.
- Able to work independently and meet tight deadlines with accuracy.

Pay
Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
Schedule
This role is primarily remote (US-based) and will work in EST hours, with occasional visits to our offices for collaboration, training, or company events.
