Criminal Prosecutions Attorney
About the role
The Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse (DMFEA) seeks experienced criminal prosecutors to join its dynamic vertical prosecution team. The Deputy Attorney General (DAG) in this position will prosecute complex criminal cases, including fraud committed by Medi-Cal providers and criminal abuses and neglect of elder and dependent adults.
Responsibilities
- Prosecute complex criminal cases in state courts, including fraud committed by Medi-Cal providers and criminal abuses and neglect of elder and dependent adults.
- Work closely with DMFEA special agents, investigative auditors, and crime analysts to develop investigative plans, review reports, search and arrest warrants, and make filing decisions for criminal charges.
- Conduct legal research and writing, prepare for court appearances, and present evidence at hearings, grand juries, and trials.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, experts, and law enforcement partners on various cases, including drug diversion of opioids and asset freeze and forfeiture.
- Travel to neighboring counties for court appearances, including occasional overnight or extended duration for meetings, conferences, and hearings.
Requirements
Must have experience in criminal prosecutions, preferably in the area of Medi-Cal fraud and elder abuse. Must possess strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills. Must be proficient in legal research and writing, and able to handle complex cases.
Qualifications
Must have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Must be licensed to practice law in California. Must have at least 6 years of relevant experience in criminal prosecution, with a focus on Medi-Cal fraud and elder abuse. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Pay
$11,993.00 - $16,096.00 per year for the position of Deputy Attorney General IV. Starting salaries for other classifications are also provided.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, with occasional travel required.
