Salary: $5,714.00 to $7,292.00 DOQ/Exp. DPSST Certified applicants are eligible for lateral placement on the salary schedule. This position is eligible for premium pay: 3% DPSST Intermediate Certification, 4% DPSST Advanced Certification, 5% Bilingual Incentive.

About the Role

The Criminal Deputy Sheriff shall be a sworn police officer within the Criminal Division of the Sheriff's Office. The employee is expected to patrol all areas of Umatilla County, including streets and highways, and provide enforcement of state, county, and federal laws. Responsibilities include responding to calls for police services, investigating crimes, citizen complaints, and other law enforcement matters in the county. The employee actively works toward the Sheriff's Office mission, goals, and values, demonstrating effective participation in the UCSO's Team Rules. Also participates in community policing projects with a service-oriented approach toward police responsibilities in Umatilla County.

Must be willing to work all shift assignments as required, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to physically perform all the duties of a Criminal Deputy Sheriff.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol all areas of Umatilla County, including streets and highways
  • Enforce state, county, and federal laws
  • Respond to calls for police services
  • Investigate crimes, citizen complaints, and other law enforcement matters
  • Participate in community policing projects
  • Perform all related work as required

Requirements

  • United States citizenship by birth or naturalization
  • Minimum age of 21 years by date of hire
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • College degree in criminal justice or related field, prior experience, job-related training, or certifications preferred
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Must pass written test, physical test, vision and hearing tests, psychological examination, and extensive background check
  • Current Oregon DPSST certification in good standing, or equivalent from another state, or ability to obtain certification within eighteen (18) months of hire
  • Must successfully complete the agency Field Training and Evaluation Program and maintain all DPSST training requirements
  • No convictions other than minor traffic violations
  • Dishonorable or undesirable military discharge is cause for disqualification
