Criminal Defense Attorney

About the role

A rapidly growing criminal defense practice is seeking a Criminal Defense Associate Attorney to join its Richmond team. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who is comfortable managing a high-volume caseload, advocating for clients in court, and working in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Represent clients in General District Court and Circuit Court.
• Manage multiple cases at different stages of the criminal process.
• Advise clients regarding their legal rights, options, and defense strategies.
• Conduct legal research and develop effective case strategies.
• Draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
• Investigate cases and gather evidence to support client defenses.
• Present evidence and advocate for clients in court.
• Maintain consistent client communication and build strong attorney-client relationships.

Qualifications

• Active Virginia Bar membership in good standing.
• Prior criminal defense experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload efficiently.
• Strong courtroom advocacy, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and client relationship skills.
• Spanish-speaking ability is a plus, but not required.
