About the role
The role involves forensic services to the Police Department, including crime scene processing, evidence handling, and forensic analysis. The position requires a forty-hour work week plus rotating on-call duty.
Responsibilities
- Responds to and oversees various complex crime scene calls, including homicides, unattended deaths, suicides, robberies, kidnappings, and property crimes.
- Photographs scenes, collects, processes, and packages evidence, maintaining detailed records of the chain of custody.
- Reconstructs events and prepares detailed reports, sketches, and diagrams.
- Provides expert testimony in criminal court cases, explaining evidence in layman's terms.
- Operates Midland Police Department computers, AFIS terminals, and Leica RTC360 systems.
- Mixes chemicals for lab and crime scene use, adhering to safety protocols.
- Trains patrol officers in crime scene search, preservation, and evidence collection.
- Attends briefings, conferences, and evidence reviews with detectives and attorneys.
- Works efficiently under stress and provides assistance as necessary.
Requirements
- Knowledge of administrative directives and laws relevant to law enforcement.
- Technical skills in investigation, identification, and records management.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
- Valid Texas Class 'C' driver's license.
- No felony convictions or poor driving record.
- Proficiency in English and ability to communicate clearly.
- Physical fitness to perform job duties.
- Ability to maintain necessary certifications (CAI, AFIS).
- Ability to meet job performance expectations.
- Valid Texas Class 'C' driver's license.
