About the Role

The Construction Technician performs a variety of physical tasks and provides support as part of the wood pole inspection and reinforcement teams. The primary function is excavating around utility poles with a shovel, along with assisting skilled workers, operating basic machinery, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual labor tasks such as lifting, carrying, digging, and moving materials as needed.
  • Assist in loading and unloading materials, tools, or equipment at job sites or within facilities.
  • Prepare work areas by setting up barriers, removing debris, and organizing materials or tools.
  • Clean and maintain work areas, ensuring they are free of hazards and clutter.
  • Assist foreman by providing necessary tools, materials, and support during tasks.
  • Follow instructions and learn basic skills to aid in specific job requirements.
  • Operate basic hand tools, power tools, and machinery under supervision and as directed by foreman.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while operating equipment or tools.
  • Follow safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment for oneself and others.
  • Report any and all safety hazards, incidents, or injuries immediately to supervisors.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and foreman.
  • Collaborate with others to complete tasks efficiently and meet project goals.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in general labor, construction, manufacturing, or related field is preferred.
  • Understanding of basic carpentry, masonry, and other skilled trades is a plus.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform strenuous tasks for extended periods, including walking long distances on uneven terrain while carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Basic understanding of safety protocols in a work environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new tasks or skills.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork and proficient use of a shovel to excavate.
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 75%.
  • Valid Driver’s License with an approved MVR.
  • Heavy Equipment Operating experience is a plus.
  • Concrete experience is a plus.

    • Healthy back and joints due to repetitive bending, lifting, and carrying.
    • Good cardiovascular health to handle strenuous activities.
  • Attention to Detail:
    • Precision in measurements and execution of tasks.
    • Awareness to avoid hazards and ensure safety.
  • Problem-Solving Skills:
    • Critical thinking to assess situations and identify solutions to challenges.
    • Adaptability to adjust methods and strategies when encountering obstacles.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Clear communication to understand and follow instructions and convey information effectively.
    • Teamwork to coordinate efforts and share information.
  • Safety Consciousness:
    • Knowledge of safety protocols and adherence to regulations and best practices.
    • Risk management to identify potential hazards and mitigate them.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Proficiency with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of digging tools.
    • Basic understanding of soil types, excavation techniques, and structural considerations.

Pay

$19.00–$25.00 per hour.
