About the Role
The role involves performing and coordinating skilled maintenance and operational activities within Public Works. The position requires monitoring work progress, resolving field problems, and ensuring service quality levels are maintained.
Responsibilities
- Performs and coordinates skilled maintenance and operational activities.
- Monitors the progress of work at site and resolves field problems as they occur.
- Assists with planning by gathering materials, equipment, and personnel needed to complete assignments.
- Monitors work progress at sites and redirects work efforts to meet critical or necessary work requirements.
- Supports and assists all crews as needed.
- Ensures proper procedures are followed and service quality levels are maintained.
- Maintains vehicles and equipment assigned to the team.
- Operates a variety of equipment consistent with Public Works activities.
- Performs inspections of contracted pavement work.
- Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing other essential duties as assigned.
- Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with diverse cultures or backgrounds.
- Subject to 24-hour recall for overtime, including during emergency situations.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by college coursework and/or specialized training.
- Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
- Commercial Driver's License.
Skills
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and/or ordinances.
- Experience and knowledge of concrete repair, including forming, pouring, and finishing.
- Skilled maintenance and operations techniques and practices of the assigned area.
- Knowledge of equipment, tools, materials, principles, and practices of the assigned area.
- Understanding of occupational hazards and related safety precautions and practices.
- Ability to interpret grades and elevations.
- Familiarity with specialized equipment relevant to the area of assignment.
- Ability to prioritize work and manage time effectively.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to resolve issues and complaints.
- Experience performing inspections and quality checks of assigned areas and equipment.
- Ability to monitor adherence to quality and service levels.
- Experience monitoring equipment and supplies inventory and researching requirements.
- Ability to prepare reports, logs, and activity documentation.
- Tractor mowing experience is a plus.
