Crew Leader - Concrete

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning by gathering materials, equipment, and personnel needed to complete assignments.
• Monitor work progress at sites; resolve in-field problems by redirecting work efforts to meet critical or necessary work requirements.
• Ensure proper procedures are followed and service quality levels are maintained.
• Maintain and operate vehicles and a variety of equipment assigned to the team consistent with Public Works activities.
• Perform inspections of contracted pavement work.
• Lead crew performing construction, demolition, and maintenance activities for streets, sidewalks, driveways, alleys, drainage, and asphalt repairs; prioritize and assign tasks; ensure all safety rules and regulations are observed on the job site.
• Cut lumber, set forms, and cut, lay, and tie rebar using steel cutters and rebar ties.
• Provide support to crew in the completion of their duties and responsibilities; offer functional and technical leadership and training as needed.
• Assist with preparation of concrete base including setting wood forms, positioning steel, measuring and pouring concrete, finishing concrete, removing wooden forms, backfilling, and cleaning site.
• Contribute to the overall success of the department by performing other essential duties as assigned.

• Subject to 24-hour recall: may be required to work overtime during emergency situations, including natural or man-made disasters, and perform essential duties different from the normal scope of the position.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by college coursework and/or specialized training.
• Five years of increasingly responsible experience in assigned area of responsibility.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License.
• Valid State of Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver’s License, or must be obtained within six months of hire.

Skills

• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and/or ordinances.
• Knowledge of maintenance techniques, equipment, tools, materials, and operational practices related to the assigned area.
• Understanding of occupational hazards and related safety precautions and practices.
• Knowledge of grades and elevations.
• Familiarity with specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.
• Ability to prioritize work and manage time effectively.
• Strong customer service skills; ability to resolve issues and complaints.
• Ability to perform inspections and quality checks while monitoring adherence to quality and service standards.
• Experience monitoring equipment and supplies inventory; researching requirements.
• Ability to prepare reports, logs, and activity documentation.
• Ability to operate machinery and equipment.
• Knowledge of concrete demolition, construction, and repair techniques, including forming, reinforcing, pouring, finishing, blueprint interpretation, and construction of street slabs, curbs, gutters, driveways, and related structures.
• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public; work cooperatively with diverse individuals and groups.

Physical Demands

• Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
• Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• May be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises, travel, and environmental conditions such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment.
