Responsibilities
- Lead the daily setup, monitoring, and takedown of traffic control devices per project requirements and NCDOT standards.
- Complete and document Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) for each assigned project site.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and procedures and take appropriate action to correct unsafe conditions or behaviors.
- Read and interpret DOT-provided plans and implement them accurately in the field.
- Communicate effectively with internal team members, contractors, and other project stakeholders to maintain clear and precise communication.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with customers and uphold the company’s reputation for quality service.
- Ensure all traffic control operations meet the specifications and requirements of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).
- Support other crew members and assist in additional tasks as needed to ensure overall crew performance and work zone safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned; responsibilities may change at any time with or without notice.
Requirements
- Excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Dependable transportation to and from work sites.
- Willingness to travel within the assigned region for daily job assignments.
- Must wear required PPE at all times (work boots, hard hat, high-visibility safety vest).
- Certified in Traffic Control through the NCDOT or ATSSA, and registered in the NCDOT database.
- In-depth understanding of NCDOT traffic control specifications and the ability to implement them in the field.
- Proven ability to complete Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) for each project assignment.
- Strong knowledge of company safety policies and the ability to enforce them consistently.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with both internal staff and external contractors.
- Ability to read and follow DOT plans and translate them into accurate field implementations.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to quality service and professionalism.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
- Must be able to lift 50+ lbs. regularly.
- Stand for extended periods and move continuously throughout shift.
- Comfortable working near live traffic and in active roadway environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in a traffic control, construction, or utility work leadership role.
- Familiarity with NCDOT specifications and MUTCD guidelines.
- Flagger certification (ATSSA or equivalent).
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
Pay
$19.50–$23.00 per hour.
