Crew Leadership & Supervision

Oversee and direct a crew of field personnel, which includes laborers and equipment operators.

Delegate work assignments and instructions to crew members in accordance with the Production Supervisor’s instructions for program requirements such as herbicide spraying, channel clearing, and debris removal.

Operate equipment as needed to ensure production goals are met.

Preparation & Safety

Ensure site trucks are loaded with the proper supplies and crew members have the appropriate safety equipment before heading to the work site.

Perform job site safety analysis (JSA) and crew safety awareness talks (tailgate meetings) to ensure all crew members are aware of site conditions and potential hazards before the start of work.

Documentation & Reporting

Record daily work production by task, including completion of work order forms and pictures of work in progress.

Additional Duties

Assume additional responsibilities as required, adapting to the District's evolving demands, responsibilities, needs, and objectives.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience: Requires a high school graduate or equivalent. Requires a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in field maintenance, mowing, landscaping, herbicide application, farming, horticulture, or a related field. Requires one (1) year of supervisory experience in a field environment.
  • Licensure: Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Good verbal & written communication skills.
    • Good organizational and managerial skills.
    • Good time management skills and can effectively prioritize and schedule multiple tasks and initiatives.
    • Able to effectively communicate with coworkers and the public.
    • Able to work well with a team in a field environment.
    • Able to load, unload, and safely transport equipment to job sites using a truck and trailer of various sizes.
    • Able to operate airboats and other marine equipment in difficult and low-water environments.
    • Able to use a variety of cutting equipment such as chainsaws, weed trimmers, and machetes.

Physical Demands & Environmental Exposure: Frequent walking up and down steep slopes of ditches or on rough and uneven surfaces or ground such as sloping terrain, plowed or furrowed areas, or construction sites. Frequent stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying items up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds. Frequent driving of vehicles with automatic and four-wheel drive controls. Occasional ascending and descending stairs. 100% of duties are performed outdoors, where there will be routine exposure to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, air pollution, wind, and dust. Will be exposed to vegetation retardants, herbicides, fertilizers, petroleum products, including but not limited to gasoline, oil, grease, diesel, and other fuels and lubricants. Will be exposed to snakes, wildlife, wasps, bees, and other flying or walking insects. May be exposed to aquatic bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms, vibration, or noise in excess of 85 decibels. Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
