About the role
The Crematory Operator reports to the Location Manager and is responsible for ensuring the proper handling and processing of remains at the crematory. Duties must align with the company's mission, values, and policies.
Responsibilities
- Cares for the deceased in a respectful manner while performing cremation tasks.
- Receives remains and confirms documentation completeness.
- Completes and verifies all required documentation related to chain of custody and cremation processes.
- Performs routine cleaning, calibrations, and preventative maintenance of crematory equipment and facilities.
- Adheres strictly to all professional, municipal, state/provincial, and federal licensing authority regulations.
- Promotes a safe work environment by practicing universal precautions and adhering to general principles of safe conduct.
- Comforts the bereaved and answers questions about the cremation process.
- Delivers cremated remains to the appropriate funeral homes.
- Performs other duties as directed by management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- State/province certification to cremate human remains.
- A good driving record and valid driver’s license for removals and deliveries.
- Previous customer service experience.
- Good communication skills.
- High level of compassion and integrity.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask and set priorities.
- Detail-oriented.
- Professional and team-player attitude.
Working Conditions
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 150 lbs.
- Manual dexterity required for certain tasks.
- Intermediate periods of non-interrupted mental/sensory concentration.
- Long hours, weekends, nights, and holidays may be required.
- Exposure to cold or hot conditions.
- Exposure to unpleasantries associated with deceased human remains.
Physical Environment
- Moderate odors, dust, or fumes that may cause discomfort or irritation.
- Potential limited exposure to dangerous chemicals, biohazards, extreme heat, suspected carcinogens, or negligible radioactivity.
- Mental stress due to direct contact with human disease and significant emotional pressures.
