Credit Policy Analyst
About the role
The Credit Policy Analyst will play a supporting role in building and scaling Anza’s credit governance framework. Reporting to the Head of Credit Policy, this role sits at the intersection of credit policy interpretation, exception management, data analysis, and GSE change implementation.
This position is responsible for supporting consistent, defensible application of Anza’s underwriting and servicing guidelines while helping identify and document emerging credit trends through data.
This is an opportunity to grow within a lean, fast-moving Risk organization and to have direct visibility into how credit policy, pricing, QC, underwriting, and operational execution align to support responsible growth.
What you'll do
- Credit Policy & Exception Governance
- Support the interpretation and application of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac credit guidelines
- Document policy interpretations and credit exceptions with clear rationale
- Maintain centralized decision logs and precedent tracking
- Identify emerging gray-area trends and recommend guidance updates
- Data Analysis & Reporting
- Write and maintain SQL queries to support exception tracking, trend analysis, and risk reporting
- Help develop and maintain reporting on exception volume/types, pricing-impacting scenarios, and QC feedback themes
- Identify patterns in loan data that may indicate credit box drift
- GSE Change Management
- Assist in monitoring and summarizing GSE guideline updates
- Support translation of policy changes into internal procedures and system requirements
- Maintain change logs and implementation tracking
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Underwriting, QC, Pricing, and Operations
- Support development of scalable data-driven workflows
Qualifications
- Minimum Education- Bachelor’s Degree
- PREFERRED Education-Master’s Degree
- Experience- 1-3 years of experience in mortgage underwriting, credit policy, QC, or related functions (or equivalent internship/academic experience)
- Familiarity- Familiarity of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Selling Guide requirements
- Technical Skills- Proficiency in SQL, able to write queries independently against structured data
- Communication Skills- Ability to document clear, consistent policy interpretations and exception rationales
- Independence- Strong written communication skills and ability to operate independently in a startup environment
