About the role

The Psychologist provides evaluation and treatment to children who have been victims of sexual and physical abuse and exposed to violence and other traumatic events. This position delivers short-term crisis intervention, mental-status assessments, and both short- and long-term psychotherapy using evidence-based therapies. The psychologist also participates in training psychology interns and social-work staff.

Responsibilities

• Assess psychological and psychosocial status of the child and family; generate accurate, timely diagnoses and treatment plans.
• Conduct ongoing psychosocial assessments utilizing all available data; update diagnoses and treatment plans as needed.
• Provide crisis intervention to ensure optimal recovery and management of crisis situations.
• Deliver short-term psychotherapy to children and adolescents on an individual, family, and group basis in weekly hourly sessions, aiming for symptom reduction and improved family outcomes.
• Use appropriate interview schedules, scales, and tools to assess patients’ mental status for treatment and research, ensuring accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
• Maintain thorough patient charts, including intakes, treatment plans, progress notes, session notes, and all contacts with other service providers, written in a timely fashion consistent with MMC hospital standards.
• Participate in departmental programs such as quality improvement, statistical reporting, continuing education, staff meetings, and in-service training to coordinate and improve patient outcomes.
• Engage in patient advocacy and consultation to help parents better understand systems and achieve improved outcomes for families.
• Demonstrate skill and knowledge related to Child Protective Services responsibilities, ensuring all children are safe with mandated reporting to the State Central Registry for investigation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (required).
• Master’s degree in Psychology (preferred).
• 4–6 years of experience with pediatric and adult populations, preferably in underserved areas within a community-based setting (required).
• Bilingual ability (preferred).
• Superior written and oral communication skills (required).
• New York State Psychologist license (required).
• Physician credential (required).
• OHS Fit Test and Annual Assessment (required).

Pay

$108,000.00–$135,000.00 per year.
