About the Role

Under the supervision of the physician, advanced practice provider (APP), and registered nurse, this role assists in providing patient care and performing office functions within a physician office setting in Kettering.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructions to patients as directed by the doctor or nurse.
  • Take vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration.
  • Assist patients whenever a need is apparent or as directed by the nurse or physician(s).
  • Assist with procedures that have been taught through formal training or by a licensed nurse or physician(s).
  • Support lab procedures under the supervision of physician(s) and nurse for which training has been provided.
  • Maintain medical records in accordance with established procedures and forms.
  • Follow principles of medical ethics for medical assistants.
  • Keep examination rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies.
  • Substitute for other office personnel, including receptionist/front desk duties, as requested.
  • Perform any other assigned duties by physician(s), nurses, or manager.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited program that meets nationally accepted standards—certificate or degree in Medical Assisting or Medical Office Management.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • If the practice has issued an AED, current BLS certification is required.
  • Six months of experience as a Medical Assistant or graduation from an accredited MA or Medical Office Management program.
  • Within one year of hire, continued employment requires successful attainment and retention of CCMA, CMA (AAMA), NCMA certification, or RMA plus documented completion of a Medical Assisting program through an accredited institution.

Skills

  • Previous experience in a medical environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of office practice, including examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures, medical equipment, and common safety hazards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and relate well with office staff, ancillary departments, and the public.
  • Patient, courteous, and tactful demeanor.
  • Ability to follow direction, accept orders, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Computer literacy, including word processing, email, and experience with electronic medical records preferred.
  • Ability to perform patient screening using established protocols.
