About the Role
Under the supervision of the provider and/or practice manager, this position assists and delivers patient care duties, and provides administrative support throughout the practice. The role assists the provider in examination and treatment of patients, performing miscellaneous delegated duties under the direction of the provider. Cross-training will be provided to enhance efficiency and continuity of delivery of patient care.
Responsibilities
- Interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information in patients' charts.
- Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients.
Requirements
- Current Medical Assistant certification/registration as CCMA, CMA (AAMA), NCMA, RMA (through AMT), or completion of KHMG Medical Assistant Training Program or MA program through an accredited institution of higher learning. Certification/registration must be attained within 15 months of hire if not already certified.
- For LPNs: Graduate of an accredited LPN program (or equivalent) with a current Ohio license.
Medical assistants who are not certified or registered at the time of hire will be restricted from administering medication and entering Epic orders until the required credentials are obtained and verified. Examples include:
- MAs with on-the-job training only.
- MAs who have completed an accredited program but have not passed the certification exam.
- MAs with a lapsed/expired certification.
- STNAs or CNAs with at least 6 months of direct patient care experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-year clinical experience in a medical/physician office setting.
- Practical knowledge in examination processes, diagnostic and treatment room procedures, medical equipment and instruments, safety hazards and precautions, and confidentiality/discretion.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EHR) preferred.
